Deadly Desires offers a perceptive look at the subject of homosexuality. Author Richard Starr carefully points study participants to what God says on the subject in his Holy Word. Starr also helps Christians see how the devil, the world, and their sinful flesh corrupt and spin God's truth. For those who struggle with the temptation of homosexual behavior, Starr offers Scriptural encouragement to resist.
This study also offers guidance for those longing to help friends - fellow Christians or unbelievers - who struggle with the homosexual lifestyle.
Everything needed to organize and instruct this Bible study is included by automatic download, which contains PDF and RTF files of both student lessons and a leader's guide that includes student answers. Both the leader's guide and the student lessons include "A Recovery Plan for the Homosexual" at the end. The study also contains 218 PowerPoint slides that accompany the six lessons.
The lessons are:
A Timely Topic
The Word of God in Old Testament
The Word of God in New Testament
Pastor Richard D. Starr received his Master of Divinity degree from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, Wisconsin, in 1978. He has served as an instructor and dormitory supervisor in two preparatory high schools of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), as a home missionary, a world missionary in Brazil, Portugal, and India, and as a parish pastor. He has been active in prison ministry, held several positions and served on various boards and committees in his church body, the WELS. Pastor Starr and his wife, Laurie, have three children and live in Michigan.
He first wrote on the subject of homosexuality in 1982 after meeting a male homosexual couple while doing mission work in Columbus, Ohio. His first book on the subject, Speaking the Unspeakable, was published two years later. Recently, Pastor Starr was asked to update the book and to write a Bible study on the subject of homosexuality. The Bible study was published in 2009 and is entitled, Deadly Desires. Pastor Starrís second book on the subject is awaiting publication. It is co-authored by a young man who was raised a Christian, fell into the sin of homosexuality, and by Godís grace has come out of that sinful lifestyle.
